Acting LocallyWhy? These are two organizations I care about deeply and I do not see how I can ever have enough time, energy or money to help these two groups as much as I wish I could. I like to dream about it though! May my giving inspire other individuals and businesses to give generously and help these groups improve and grow their services. My husband and I gardened in the Second Street Community Garden in South Troy for several years, thanks to Capital District Community Gardens (CDCG). CDCG is a private nonprofit community service organization that has been helping residents of Albany, Rensselaer, and Schenectady Counties improve their neighborhoods through community gardening and urban greening programs for more than 25 years. I currently serve on the all-volunteer board of directors. Cats are another big aspect of our home life, and in 2002 we adopted Weeble and Wobble from Whiskers Animal Benevolent League. Weeble and Wobble are excellent salesmen, and in no time I found myself volunteering to help at the shelter. I had thought about doing it for years, but like I said, they are the best salesmen. Whiskers mission is to provide abandoned, abused, and stray animals with a place of comfort, safety, and health and ultimately find them loving, responsible, permanent homes. Whiskers specializes in helping animals that have no advocate, those that have been abandoned on the streets or who have been abused. Whiskers operates a shelter and maintains foster homes for housing lost, homeless, abandoned, injured or sick animals. The group also raises money to pay for the veterinary bills to alter, vaccinate, and restore health to these companion animals. Thank you so much for helping me to get money to these incredible organizations!
